Future Money Matters

A brand new financial event just for beneficiaries.

DATE: Thursday 10 May 2018 9:15am - 5:00pm

VENUE: Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham, B40 1PP

The Thalidomide Trust is putting on a brand new event for beneficiaries which will be focused on providing a range of information and guidance on a variety of financial based topics, including things like: making a Will; lasting power of attorney; mortgages and lending; personal trusts; savings and investment, retirement planning, personal budgeting and much more!

We have planned a provisional agenda for the event but this is how the day will be shaped:

Morning Session: The morning of the event will be designated to providing you with informative sessions covering a range of financial topics delivered by financial specialists, including:

  • Savings and investments: Jody Banks (Caple Banks Wealth Management)
  • Retirement planning: Janet Sobanksa (Centre for Financial Education)
  • Lasting power of attorney: Jessica Beddows - Lodders Solicitors LLP
  • Making a will: Sofia Tayton - Lodders Solicitors LLP
  • VAT exemption: Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC)

Beneficiaries will have the opportunity to attend up to three of these topics in the morning sessions.

Afternoon Session: In the afternoon, the event will provide you with the opportunity to pre-book a confidential ‘one to one’ meeting with the financial specialists that will be attending on the day. In addition to this staff from the Trust’s finance team will also be available for ‘one to one’ meetings if you would like to discuss anything in relation to your Trust Grants, payments and Advances, or other financial matters.

Running alongside the ‘one to one’ meetings will also be an open afternoon session creating an informal and relaxed environment for you to meet and socialise with fellow beneficiaries and Trust staff that will be attending on the day.

How can I book a place at the event?

Click here and complete the booking form then return to Jeff Prevost (Finance Co-ordinator – Beneficiary Support) either via email (jeff.prevost@staging.thalidomidetrust.org) or via freepost to:

FREEPOST Thalidomide Trust, ANG3616, St Neots, PE19 8BR

Booking forms must be returned by 16 March 2018
Do I have to pay for my own travel and accommodation?

Yes, beneficiaries will need to arrange and meet the cost of their own travel to and from the event, as well as accommodation if they wish to stay overnight. There is a list of hotels with accessible rooms located close to the venue so you can book your own rooms.

How much does it cost?

The event is free for you to attend. Refreshments and lunch are also included.

Can I bring anyone with me to the event?

Whilst the event is designed primarily for beneficiaries of the Thalidomide Trust, we recognise that some people may wish to bring along a family member, carer or a personal assistant.  Whilst we do not wish to discourage others from attending, there will not be a separate programme arranged for them, but they are welcome to join in any of the sessions. A maximum of two additional people can attend with you if required.

Do I need to attend the full day?

No. If you would like to attend for part of the day that is fine. Please indicate this on your booking form so we can plan catering requirements.
